Bread Sauce

Cut the bread in thin
slices and put it in a
saucepan laying between
each slice some onion
sliced very thin. Then put to
it as much water as will
cover it and let it boil
till the bread is tender;
beat it fine and season
it with white pepper
and salt to your taste
add a piece of butter
some good cream, and
give it a boil up again.
